An American Girl

White Fox is a Native American girl living about 200 years ago in a culture on a different continent from Laos, but with many similarities to Lao life. She wants to contribute to the potlatch ceremony that her family is preparing, but she's too young to make a suitable basket. So instead, she finds another way to help.

The story is told in very simple English suitable for children who want to learn the language. Each page has English, a Lao translation, and phonetic English. The phonetic system is one we devised in which English sounds are represented with Lao letters as much as possible, making it much easier to learn than the standard international phonetic symbols.
