Ant, Knife, Tied Up

The Lao consonants are easy to learn: There are 26, each with its own sound. Vowels are more difficult: 15 symbols variously combine, or sit left, right, above, or below the consonant, to create 36 vowel sounds. (An "x" is used as a placeholder in grammar books, to show where the vowel is placed.)

Here, as he did with the consonants, Thongkham uses pictures to help children recognize the common vowels.
